When Do I Book My Maternity Session?

Tisha Landrum is a Maternity Photographer In Harrisburg.  Congratulations on your pregnancy, I bet you are wondering when to take maternity photos!  You’re planning and preparing to welcome your little one into the world and sharing the joy of your news with family and friends.

Having maternity photos taken may seem like just another thing to add to your growing to-do list, but a portrait session can serve as a reminder of how beautiful and amazing your pregnant body is. Maternity photos can help you document and remember your pregnancy journey not just in the months before giving birth, but for years to come.

Not sure when to schedule your maternity session? That’s why this super helpful Maternity Photographer In Harrisburg, PA–> Tisha Landrum, put together a few tips to help you know when is the best time to photograph your baby bump. Schedule your session in your second trimester

The best time to take maternity photos is during your seventh or eighth month of pregnancy or around 35 weeks. Once you’ve entered your third trimester, your belly begins to develop more of a nice round shape that’s perfect for showing off in photos. In addition, at this point in your pregnancy, your baby will not yet have begun to move downward, which means your belly will be higher and create that perfect maternity silhouette.

Schedule your session too early, and your bump may not be as pronounced as you’d like. And if you have photos taken after your eighth month, chances are you’ll be too uncomfortable to pose and smile. For that reason, avoid taking your maternity photos near the end of your pregnancy, after 36 weeks.

Plan an earlier shoot if you’re expecting multiples

If you’re expecting twins—or even triplets—schedule your maternity session for your second trimester. Your baby bump will appear bigger in the second trimester if you’re carrying more than one child. A good estimate is to take your maternity photos around 24 weeks while you can still move around fairly easily.

Keep an eye on that baby bump

While the seventh or eighth month is generally a good time to take your maternity photos, remember that every woman and every pregnancy is different. Pay attention to the changes in your body and the shape of your growing baby bump to know when is the best time for you to step in front of the camera.

If this is your first pregnancy and you’re not sure what signs to be on the lookout for, take regular photos of your bump to see how it looks. Many women like to track the progress of their pregnancy with regular baby bump photos, and these images are a simple way to keep track of your changing body and better plan out when to do your maternity session.

Err on the side of caution

If you’re uncertain about when exactly to schedule your maternity shoot and you want to make sure you book your desired photographer, go for an earlier session rather than a later one. The more advanced your pregnancy, the more exhausted and uncomfortable you’ll be. It will be harder for you to move around, change positions, and switch outfits for a photo session. So, if you feel like your baby bump is looking great at six months instead of seven or eight, go ahead and do those maternity photos! Better to take your images early than too late

Just like with most things in life, maternity photos are all about timing. Choosing the right time to schedule your maternity session will help ensure that you’re looking and feeling your best, allowing you to have images marking this huge, wonderful change in the life of your family.

Harrisburg Baby Photographer Tisha Landrum documents Callie’s 12 month milestone portrait session in the Camp Hill, PA Studio.  This Harrisburg PA baby photographer specializes in first year milestones.  Tisha Landrum photography is located in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.

12 Month Milestones are documented by a what are called a “Cake Smash”.  Cake Smash Photography is a fun way to document the first year by showing that baby is now ready to eat solid foods.  At this one year session we also try to document standing, walking, crawling, & lots of giggles & smiles! Callie cake was custom made for her from PA BakeryCake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash Photographer Cake Smash PhotographerDuring the first year of life, your baby will grow and develop at an amazing speed. Her/His weight will double by 5 to 6 months, and triple by her/his first birthday. And she/he is constantly learning.  Documenting these milestones with a local professional photographer will ensure that you have all the adorable, soft, squishy cuteness frozen in time for you to cherish for years to come.

What Are The Milestones?

Your baby will have many major achievements during the first year.  These achievements are called developmental milestones.  These important first year milestones include rolling over, sitting up, standing and possibly walking.  As your Central Pa Baby photographer I love documenting all these important moments in your babies life.

Smiling & Laughing

By around 2 months of age, your baby will smile in response to you! The sound of your voice or the sight of your face is often all it takes to trigger your baby’s irresistible grin.  By 4 months, you can look forward to another sound, possibly the sweetest you’ll ever hear — your baby’s laughter. The best part is how easily a baby laughs. Silly faces, tickling, and peek-a-boo are usually more than enough to set off lots of squeals and giggles.

Sitting Up

How different the world looks when you’re not stuck on your belly! Around 5 or 6 months, most babies can sit up with support — either by resting on their hands in front of them or by leaning on pillows or furniture. Babies can usually sit alone steadily by 7-9 months.

Crawling

If you have an 8-month-old, you may want to put your gym membership on hold. You’re about to get plenty of exercise chasing your suddenly mobile baby around the house. By 9 months, most babies crawl using both hands and feet, though some babies never crawl, preferring to creep or wriggle instead. Crawling is not an essential baby milestone, and infants who choose to scoot or creep still tend to reach other milestones on schedule.

Eating Finger Food

Just when spoon-feeding begins to lose its luster, babies are ready to feed themselves. Between 9-12 months, babies develop better control over their hands and fingers, making it easier to grab small objects — like finger foods! Unfortunately, babies this age love to explore taste and texture, so food is not the only thing they’ll try to pop into their mouths. Environmental safety should, therefore, become a big parental concern at this age.Babies Grow Up So Fast

It is just so important you don’t miss a beat when it comes to finding your first year milestones photographer.  Tisha Landrum is committed to helping you capture all these precious moments and more.  The first year of your babies life goes by so quickly.  Don’t miss out on making special memories and preserving them!

I had the opportunity to photograph my dear friend & colleague Jodi Major from AFH Media.  She & I met through mutual friends at church and hit it off.  We developed a great relationship in business by putting community over competition.  I was so honored when she asked me to photograph her family.  For their Family Portraits we went to Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA.  There are some beautiful spots to photograph families on their grounds.  It is my new favorite spot for sure!

Narrowing it down to just one location is almost impossible. So, when I work with clients who have such unique taste, I make them feel special and let them have their own unique experience!  I hope you all look back one day and have such fond memories of your sessions with me.  You are all so near and dear to my heart and I will cherish the time I got to spend with you and your growing families over the years!

As your local newborn baby photographer my goal is to make you feel a little more prepared.   Check out all the beautiful images from Nirvana’s Baby & Newborn Photographer post you can also check out more images on my Facebook & Instagram Pages.  As you scroll here are some basic tips to help you make the most of your maternity & newborn photography sessions.

Your maternity photography session should take place when you are at about 35 weeks. Any longer, and you are likely to be more uncomfortable.  It will be more difficult to pose & be on your feet for long!  Don’t worry if your newborn arrives later or earlier than expected! Your session date is flexible, and we’ll be sure to fit you in.

Be aware of where to go.

Tisha Landrum Photography is located in Camp Hill, Pa.  I typically photograph maternity sessions at an outdoor location based on how you want to look and be remembered.  For Newborn Sessions, I operate out of my home studio.  The studio is in the greater Harrisburg, Pa area.  There are plenty of places within a few blocks like Rite Aid, Cvs, a few restaurants and Giant Foods. Don’t worry if you forgot something.  The in home studio is cozy.  There is plenty of room for Mom & Dad to relax.  When you arrive please park in the drive way.  I like my clients to do their best to arrive on time.

Choose baby’s outfit and accessories.

The perfect wardrobe for a newborn? Nothing! You want your images to capture those tiny fingers and toes, sweet little rolls of fat, and soft baby skin. But be sure to dress your newborn in an outfit that’s easy to take off and put on again. You may also want to bring along some accessories or sentimental items that hold special meaning for you and your family, like a blanket that’s been in your family for generations or a toy from your childhood. Items like this are a great way to add personal detail to your images.  Tisha has plenty of vintage props, wraps, etc. available in the studio for parents to choose for use in their photos.

Determine your own look.

For Maternity sessions choose something you feel comfortable in.  Some women love to get dressed up in a gown or have something custom made.  Some women love to have a more casual look in jeans and T-shirt.  For Your Newborn Session, the photos will mostly be of your little one.  You’ll want photos of Mom & Dad with your new baby as well! Take some time to choose your own wardrobe—go for something simple and comfortable. Makeup is definitely not required, but a little touching up can help you feel fresh and at east in front of the camera. I also have a hair & makeup stylist on call.  To help you look and feel you’re best on the day of your session.  It also helps to use a few basic hair products to keep strays in place.

Don’t change your routine.

To keep your baby happy, don’t change their diet or daily routine before your session. Continue with your regular feedings, and don’t forget to pack plenty of bottles for the shoot if you formula-feed. Be prepared for a warm studio I keep the heat on high—around 80 degrees—to make sure your newborn is warm and comfortable, but it may be a little toasty for you! Be sure to dress comfortably or wear layers you can easily remove.

Talk to older siblings

If you have older children, it can be so much fun to include them in the newborn session! Just be sure to talk to them beforehand about listening to the photographer and behaving during the shoot. And don’t forget to pack some non-messy snacks as well!

What to Pack

Not sure what you need to bring to your newborn session? I’ve put together this checklist to help you pack everything you need in your diaper bag! Plenty of diapers and wipes: Accidents happen, and you’ll want to be prepared. Extra outfits for you and baby: Again, it’s best to be prepared! Bring extra clothes for you and your little one, just in case there’s an accident and you need a change. Pacifiers: Don’t be surprised if baby gets a little fussy between shots, so bring along some pacifiers. Bottles: Be sure to bring enough bottles and formula for three to four feedings throughout your session. And if you’re nursing, it doesn’t hurt to bring some supplementary bottles just in case! Sentimental items: Don’t forget to pack your old baby toy, a family heirloom blanket, or any other items that are special to you. These mementos make great additions to your images!

Choosing your images

After your session we will schedule a time for you within 2 weeks to come back in to the studio for your viewing and ordering session.  I will have a slide show of about 30 fully retouched images for you to choose from.  I will also have a newborn album designed for you to view.  Part of my baby photography process is helping you decide how to display your beautiful professional portraits in your home.  After deciding on what you would like to purchase you will pay for your order.  I will spend the next few days going back through your images to make sure they are absolutely perfect.  I then sends out your order for processing.  Typically orders take 2-3 weeks.  Of course I will also hand deliver your order for you!   If you have purchased any wall art I professionally hang your purchases for you too!  How cool is that!

Where To Go For Your Session

As a Hershey & surrounding areas Family photographer, I love it when opportunities come along to schedule photography sessions in unique places.   This beautiful family wanted a location with some greenery & a bridge.  We chose Milton Hershey School for their Family Photography In Hershey session.  I love to find the perfect location for your family to be photographed.  I always ask my clients one important question.  “How do you want to be remembered?”  I get so excited to have the opportunity to work with you and your children.

Picking A Location

With so many location options to choose from, sometimes my clients have a tough time trying to decide on the perfect place for their senior pictures. Pennsylvania is so beautiful and has a wide range of location options: Urban, Garden, High Mountains, Country, Natural, Rustic, Lakes, Waterfalls… The variety just doesn’t quit.

What’s Your Vision?

Our family photography sessions are designed around each of our clients. It’s about bringing your vision to life.  We provide a one-of-a-kind session that perfectly captures this monumental moment in yours and your children’s lives. That’s what being freezing time is all about!  For more info, please visit my Children & Family Photography Page.

Cake Smash Photography

Cake Smash Photography in Tisha Landrum’s studio documents Luke’s 12 month milestone.  This Harrisburg PA baby photographer specializes in Cake Smash Photography.

Luke’s cake was custom made for him from PA Bakery.

It is just so important you don’t miss a beat when it comes to finding your first year milestones / Cake Smash photographer.  Tisha Landrum is committed to helping you capture all these precious moments and more.  The first year of your babies life goes by so quickly.  Don’t miss out on making special memories and preserving them!

Maternity Photography In Central PA

Tisha Landrum specializes in Maternity Photography In Central PA.  Tisha Landrum Photography gives some insight to Lifestyle maternity Sessions at home.

Sessions take place in and around your home

Maternity Photo Sessions with your pets and or children can be very fun, intimate & comfortable.  Maternity Photography at home aims to capture a day in the life and is all about your baby bump!

Belly shots are some of my favorites for a lot of reasons. They have definitely gotten a bad rap over the years and we’ve all seen the ‘what not to do’ images on those funny websites, but really they can be so beautiful. Being pregnant is a time of anticipation, change and excitement…all of which should be documented!Maternity Photography In Central PAMaternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA Maternity Photography In Central PA

Getting to Know You

When looking for Maternity Photography In Central PA  may want to consider a lifestyle session.  Lifestyle Maternity Photography Sessions are a wonderful way to get to know new parents before you work with their precious newborn. Maternity Portrait sessions with other children or pets (especially toddlers) are a whole other ball game… but these sessions can be fun and exciting too!

When should maternity sessions take place?

We want to ‘see the bump’ so this might depend on whether or not it’s a first pregnancy. I typically recommend the middle of the last trimester and hopefully around 35 weeks. Once you reach that point, things start to get uncomfortable – getting up and down is tough work and it’s hard to feel ‘pretty’. If you’ve been pregnant in the past, try to think back and remember. If you do the session too early in the pregnancy you might not be able to tell there is a bump.  I am usually in constant communication with my new moms all during your last trimester.  I like to check in with you frequently to see how you are feeling & give emotional support since I’ve been in your shoes myself!

If you’re expecting a baby or already a parent and looking for a newborn, Maternity Photography In Central PA, or family photographer, I would love to work with you to create images that you will love for a lifetime.  Schedule a consultation to hear about my philosophy and see how I work in the studio & outdoors so you can determine if I’m the right fit for you. I can’t wait to meet you!
