Ethan, my summer boy is such a little star! He’s the apple of my eye, the reason i wake up every day and keep on grinding so to speak. He gives me reason to pursue my passion of photography and make a successful go at it. He gives me inspiration through seeing the world of wonder through tiny eyes. Right now everything to him is magical, wondrous, new and amazingly beautiful. I get a front row seat to the show every morning when I open my eyes. I feel so so so blessed to have him as my son. Being a Mom to Ethan is everything I hoped for & much much more.
Ethan, my summer boy was absolutely perfect for his summer photo session. My very generous neighbor gave us this adorable little VW Bug. Apparently his kiddos used it when they were young possibly 30+ years ago. As soon as David & Ethan came home with it I immediately started planning this photo shoot in my mind. My wheels were turning! I couldn’t wait to get him all dressed up in a cute little outfit and into that car to play pretend. He made the most adorable faces! UGH!!! I know I’m soooo bias because he’s my summer boy, but I can’t help but just love every single one of these images!
To be completely honest with you I’m falling behind on the family photo bit. YES, I mean MY family photos with our little family. David, Ethan & I. The last time we had a photo taken of all 3 of us (not a cell phone pic) was quite a while ago. (insert embarrassed emoji here). So that is something we will be absolutely doing this summer! As a Camp Hill, PA and Harrisburg, PA family photographer, one of the most heartbreaking things to hear a parent say when they contact me for a photo session is “I’m not photo ready right now. Let’s just do a kids session this year.” ……..BELIEVE ME I hear you and I really do get it!! I feel the same way myself! But I think what people are missing is the big picture. You’ve probably seen the meme with the old photo that says “If you think pictures aren’t important, wait until that’s all you have left.” What are you leaving your children? TONS of photos of them as they grow, thanks to iPhones and androids. Probably many more than we ever had as kids. Lots of phone videos of their various school plays, and some silly snap chat photos with your faces swapped. But are you leaving them with tangible memories of YOU? Will they have actual printed and framed photos that they can cherish long after you are no longer with them? One of my favorite things to capture in a family photography session is the way a parent looks at their child. The unfiltered joy and pride that a parent has for their child is something special. YOU know that you feel this way, and you probably look at them 20 times a day with such expressions. But THEY don’t see it. As a grown adult, how special are family photos with your parents in them? Especially photos where you get to see your parents looking at you with such joy. Think about that the next time you tell yourself you aren’t photo ready right now. When will you be? Are you going to get these years back?
